We are all similar in that we all have stress in our lives, what sets us apart, is how we choose to deal with our “stressors” .
I am going to share with you My secret to reducing stress , 6 ways.
Just so happens that Number 1 is my favorite but after that , they are not in order
Walk if Off
By far my “goto” remedy for stress relief .
You head outdoors and not even a block into your walk you already feel a “shift” and by the end of it , your tense feeling is gone. And able to make sense of what was bothering you in the first place.
In my intervew with Marcella in http://loveofmyparents.com/motivational-monday-marcella/ most of her BEST TIMES of hiking up the Grouse Grind was when she was working something out in her head …
Use Stress, for your advantage …. don’t allow it to get the best of you . Get the best out of it !!
2. Talk it out (or text it )
After walking , talking (or texting) is one I often resort to when no-one is available.
So texting for me is the next best stress-reliever. My Best Friend of 43 years is usually on the receiving end of my messages. She lives in a different city so texting is fast and easy, and if she or I need to say something that might be particularly hard to hear, (tough love kind thing) well it is sometime the best way to communicate it .
Within minutes you can feel the tension leave your shoulders, your heart slows down, and the urge to scream isn`t there anymore. Talking is one of the healthiest habits you can form.
Great lesson for the whole family to learn (including your parents!!!).
3. Deep Breathing
Instant De-stresser!!. And here is a way to DEEP Breathe your
way to C-A-L-M
- Take a slow breath in through the nose, breathing into your lower belly (for 4 seconds)
- Hold your breath for 1 to2 seconds
- Exhale slowly through the mouth (for 4 seconds)
- Wait a few seconds before taking another breath – source from anxietybc.com
As a kid art was my favorite subject, beside P.E. I could lose track of time doing anything that had to do with Art .
If I were on the phone, I would often have a pen in hand as well and would be doodling as I was yapping on the phone , not very “present” of me, i know 🙁
So i would like to introduce to you a gal. Amreta Sidik who has taken her talent as an artist to a whole new level , she makes “Coloring books” not for kids for adults!! and they are beautiful!!!!
Here is website and facebook page , you can actually download a sample for free (i know we love free!! ). Make sure you go check that out , you can also give her a “like” so you can get her updates from her new collections of artwork … (don’t forget to download a copy to try out yourself and have fun doing it !!)
Coloring and doodling are a great stress relief , not do they take the edge off my mood , they take me to a different place altogether. I am sure a lot of you have the same experience with your hobbies , arts and crafts 🙂 .
5. Create a Spa Day
This particular strategy will take a little planning ahead of time
But well worth the effort when you are in the need for some TLC
Here is a list you can pick up the next time you are at the drug store
~ Epsom Salts
~ Tea-light Candles
~ Essential oil (of your choice , my NEW fav
~ Nail polish of your choice
is “NOIR LOVE” from ( http://www.escentsaromatherapy.com/ )
~ and a great way to top off your DIY spa day , is to have all the calming song on one playlist ….. great way to soothe the soul 🙂 and here is a sample of my mellow music playlist , all though I have more on my walking tunes that this one but join RDIO.com is fee and your can download it to your smart phone.http://www.rdio.com/people/julian39ish/playlists/11279745/melllowwww_music/
When stress shows up, turn off your phone , turn off your TV .
Tell your loved ones you are having a “spa day” They are not going to stop you (not sure if your are aware of this but NO ONE likes a CRANKY- PANTS!!! ).
So head over to your Spa (aka your bathroom ha ha ha ) and you will be soon feeling like a better version of yourself in no time.
How can you stay angry with pink toes!!!
Enables your to take the focus off your own issues.
A great way to do this is by getting involved as a volunteer, “Giving back” is a great way to build your self esteem , help others who need the help.
We often underestimate how much we are needed in life,
Our knowledge , Our talents, Our Empathy,
are all needed by others , to grow.
As we extend our handout to help some one “UP” , We are actually allowing ourselves to grow as humans, that is what is needed when we are feeling “stressed” that little push to guide so we do not go to our `vices` or `crutches`
Don’t Under estimate yourself , your NEEDED !! Get involved you’ll be happy you did 🙂
And that is my list of what works for me when I am stressed out . When you are a CAREGIVER it is very important to grab a hold of a strategy that works for you . If you have any and you are brave enough to share , please in the comment box below I would love to learn of some new ways I can get rid of stress , and you will be enlightening others ! 🙂
