When travelling with seniors, time is your best ally and knowing a handful of resources can make a trip Stress-LESS . Travelling with your parents planning is the key to effortless fun, and time Management will be your key to your sanity, if you have ever gone on an UN-organized trip before you’ll know what I mean.
When purchasing tickets to go on a vacation, I would go with the bigger companies. You will be able to make the process very painless, as they have connections to local Restaurants & Guided tours that you can add to your package as well as reviews from earlier travellers and all have social media to back them up. Always a good thing to look at as well, as people these days are not afraid to share their TRUE feelings about the service they received, the GOOD and the BAD. So look for that.
Not to rule out the smaller companies but if you what to get all the travelling arrangements done, in a “one stop shop” the bigger ones are in my opinion the way to go.
If you are Bed and Breakfast people like my mom and dad were there is a new company that is getting a lot of buzz Airbnb.ca (no i am not affiliated with this company, just heard great things about it).
We love “deals” right? so don’t forget to ask about “senior DISCOUNTS” it is a must. You can get deals on flights, hotel rates, bus tours, food you name it they have senior rates. No shame in asking 🙂 But if you don’t ask you wont receive, going discount is usually in the 10-15% off.
Medical Insurance, If you have a PRE-existing medical condition, Medical Insurance is pricey, not going to lie, I went online and pretended was a senior with high-blood pressure, and a few other conditions. And I did get a bit of a sticker shock, so much so I called my mom to ask if that could be true. And sure enough she said a lot of her travel pals pay a lot so they are properly insured (another reason to stay healthy :|).
But regardless of the price it is important to have proper insurance when leaving your home country. So many stories of people not having enough coverage or signed the form incorrectly. It pays to take your time and really look over the plan your parents is about to sign. Even a wrong DATE can cancel your policy. And to make sure your “Side trips” are COVERED (if you go on a cruise and go on a bus tour or whatever it is you have planned).
Packing days ahead will save you, that panic feeling you get if you were to leave it to the night before you leave, We’ve all been there and waiting for laundry to dry in the dryer at 12 at night knowing full well our alarm going to go off for 6 am. 🙁
Especially if you’re packing for two, if you need an alarm, set one up on google calendar to remind you it’s worth it.

Planning and Time Management are your best friends.
This “Power Couple” is how you are going to enjoy your vacation you have dreamed about.
No second guessing if you have the documents you need
No getting upset at each other, because someone forgot to phone ahead and see if the hotel is wheelchair friendly
But Most of all why I wrote this piece is so you can enjoy your time with your parents.
So often we seem to find the time to argue over the little things and forget to appreciate the food at the restaurant we are dining at , or the scenery on the bus tour we just went on.
We are upset at ourselves or others due to we forgot to ask if they supply meals on the day trip you arranged, and now everyone including yourself is HANGRY!! (Hungry and ANGRY mixed together) and yes this happens to me from time to time.
This can be avoided with some Well managed Time and Planning
And enjoy your well deserved Vacation , You earned it and so did your parents . So if you know someone else can benefit from this piece, Pass it on 🙂 you’ll be thanked when they come back and their trip that went so smoothly thanks to you 🙂
